About Amber

Amber Tafoya is working hard to be your next State Representative for our district, HD4.  An attorney and Army wife who is active in the Democratic Party and our community, she would be honored to represent the people of Northwest and West Denver.

Amber understands the struggles we face as Coloradoans from her own experience.  She knows that each of us has valuable wisdom to offer in solving tough problems and making our government work for us.  That's why she and her team have visited over 13,000 homes in our district to talk about the issues that concern them most and where we need her to produce results.

Amber is the only candidate in this race that has worked on over 30 pieces of legislation, including: Payday Lending rate caps, the Address Confidentiality Program increased protections for victims of domestic violence, worker protections, equal pay for equal work, and protecting Old Age Pension and the Senior Homestead Tax Exemption.  She has also been able to strengthen protection orders and worked to increase funding for women's shelters without increasing taxes.  In addition to women, children and seniors, she has successfully fought for enforceable labor protections, health care for all, and quality education for our children.

As an active leader in our community, her team in the south end of the district brought out hundreds of new English and Spanish-speaking voters for President Obama.  She leads a variety of community improvement efforts including playing a lead role in graffiti clean ups and City Councilman Paul Lopez's Neighborhood Congress.  Amber was one of the leaders in saving Lake International Middle School.

Throughout her life, Amber has displayed determination, passion, and drive to improve her life and the lives of those around her.  From being the first person in her family to graduate from college, then pushing through law school while in a wheelchair because of a doctor's error, to practicing law in service to families on the margins, Amber has shown her commitment to a Colorado that works for everyone.

Her experience makes her a strong, effective and caring leader.  Amber is voice for each of us, no matter how ignored we may feel by the political system.  She is a voice for real results who sees the time for change is now.

Amber Tafoya currently owns her own law and consulting firm, Tafoya Law and Consulting, LLC.  She graduated from Colorado State University-Pueblo magna cum laude with a major in history and a minor in Spanish.  She earned her law degree from the University of Colorado School of Law in 2002 and has since worked in non-profit legal services with Catholic Charities of Pueblo, Colorado Coalition Against Domestic Violence and others.  She is a well-respected member of the legal and non-profit community in Denver who serves on the Colorado Coalition Against Domestic Violence Legislative Committee and the AILA Pro Bono and Legislative Committees.
